In writing

In a few words

People do not read screens like books. They skim. So write short sentences, keep paragraphs to two or three sentences, and use everyday words. Say use instead of utilise. A good test is to read your page out loud. If you run out of breath, the sentence is too long.

Words explained

Skim: looking quickly over a page to find what you need.

Plain English: simple words and short sentences that anyone can follow.
